Director of Data

Pebl is seeking a highly technical, deeply analytical, and aggressively innovative Director of Data to lead its data strategy, infrastructure, and AI integration. Based out of the Palo Alto office, the role sits at the intersection of R&D and core business functions, ensuring Pebl's global employment and compliance data is secure, accessible, and actionable.

Responsibilities

Own the vision and execution of Pebl's modern data infrastructure; Serve as the technical authority on data engineering, ensuring scalable, performant, and reliable data pipelines; Champion data security, privacy, and governance protocols for global payroll, HR, and compliance data; Transform complex datasets into actionable strategies across all departments; Partner with Marketing and Sales to optimize the growth funnel, CAC, and conversion rates; Collaborate with Operations, Finance, and Legal to improve billing accuracy, payroll speed, and compliance tracking; Lead efforts to make Pebl an AI-native company; Bring AI capabilities to R&D offerings, such as enhancing the compliance assistant Alfie; Embed AI into daily workflows of Marketing, Sales, Operations, Finance, and Legal; Translate between deep technical R&D work and business objectives; Present complex insights to the executive team and the board; Lead, recruit, and grow a high-performing team of data engineers, analysts, and AI specialists; Foster a culture of continuous learning, psychological safety, and a data-driven mindset

Requirements

15+ years of experience in data engineering, data science, or analytics, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role; Deep, hands-on expertise orchestrating the modern data stack: Snowflake, Fivetran, Atlan, Looker, and Monte Carlo; Proven experience deploying LLMs, machine learning models, and AI tools for production products and internal operational workflows; Demonstrated ability to collaborate with Marketing, Sales, Operations, Finance, and Legal to tie data initiatives to top-line growth and bottom-line efficiency; A track record of weaving data into compelling business narratives for non-technical stakeholders; Ability to work from the Palo Alto office Monday through Wednesday
