Engineering Manager, Trust & Safety - São Paulo, Brazil

DoorDash is looking for an Engineering Manager to join its Trust & Safety team in the São Paulo engineering hub to lead a team that builds the systems keeping DoorDash's marketplace safe and trustworthy for consumers, merchants, and dashers worldwide. Trust & Safety Engineering protects every interaction on the DoorDash platform, using multiple layers of AI and machine learning to detect and prevent abuse, fraud, and harmful content at scale. The team is rebuilding its safety platform from the ground up to serve all companies in the DoorDash group globally, covering content moderation across text, voice, and image; real-time fraud and abuse detection; compliance and regulatory enforcement; and decision systems that balance safety, user experience, and operational efficiency. The role will partner closely with Product, Design, Data Science, Legal, and Strategy & Operations to define and deliver a roadmap that integrates AI-driven decisions, real-time content moderation, and robust policy enforcement into high-volume production systems. The Engineering Manager will own both the technical direction and operational excellence required to run the platform at scale.

Responsibilities

Lead and grow a high-performing team of engineers focused on safety systems, content moderation, and abuse detection; Own the design and architecture of a global safety platform that serves multiple products, countries, and languages; Productionize AI-driven moderation and classification models into high-volume, real-time workflows; Shape the long-term architecture of systems that balance user safety, regulatory compliance, and platform experience; Drive the migration from purpose-built safety tools to a unified, scalable platform serving the entire DoorDash group; Mentor engineers in distributed systems design, AI/ML integration, and platform excellence; Foster a culture of ownership, velocity, and strong cross-functional collaboration across time zones; Partner with Recruiting to build a diverse, inclusive, and high-caliber engineering team in São Paulo

Requirements

B.S., M.S., or PhD in Computer Science or related field; 7+ years of industry experience in software engineering; 2+ years of experience in people management, leading teams of 5+ engineers; Experience with distributed system design, system scaling, and performance optimization; Experience working with remote teams across different time zones and fluency in English; Hands-on leadership style and strong product intuition; Humility, willing to get into the details and open to feedback; Growth mindset, eager to expand your skill set and carve out your career path in a hyper-growth setting; Adaptability and resilience

Nice to have

Experience in Trust & Safety, content moderation, fraud prevention, or abuse detection systems; Experience with ML/AI systems in production, including model serving, feature stores, and real-time inference; Experience with Java/Kotlin/Go tech stacks; Prior experience building platforms that serve multiple products or business lines; Experience in a company that operates across multiple countries and regulatory environments
