Fab shop pipe welder - 1st & 2nd shift

The Fabrication Welder sets up and welds together metal components of products such as pipe, flanges, extensions, and plates; identifies, manually welds, and repairs defects in welded pipe with electric arc-welding equipment. Follows all safety policies and initiates safety improvements.

Responsibilities

Set-up and operate welding machines in the fabrication of metal products and assemblies; Strike (form) arc, manually guide electrode or gun along weld line, maintaining length of arc and speed of movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead; Weld in flat, horizontal, and vertical positions; Self-examine welds for bead size, proper surface finish, and compliance with drawings and specifications; Clean or degrease weld joint or work piece; Chip off excess weld, slag, and spatter; Position and clamp work pieces together or assemble them in jig or fixture; Tack assemblies together; Identify areas of pipe that require repair, either pre-marked by inspectors or through visual inspection; Position pipe on repair rack to facilitate the repair process; Perform preparatory work by grinding, preheating or otherwise preparing pipe; Follow all safety policies and initiate safety improvements; Comply with all safety rules; Manually weld and repair defects in welded pipe with electric arc-welding equipment; Perform other duties as assigned by management, including cross training and housekeeping

Requirements

Must be able to work 1st or 2nd Shift schedule; Must be physically able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations; Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, read and understand pipe drawings, and procedure manuals; Must be able to write routine reports and correspondence; Must be able to speak effectively with supervisors and other employees; Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; Must be able to accurately read tape measure; Must be able to understand and execute instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form; Must be able to recognize and solve problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations; Must be able to use company computer systems to view and understand the action required from the dispatch list; Must be able to read, write and effectively communicate in English; Must be able to read, understand and interpret blueprints and weld procedures; Successfully passes all annual weld tests; Requires minimal, if any, supervision to accomplish the essential functions of the job; Must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds; Specific vision abilities required include both close and distant vision; Must pass vision test (20/30 with or without corrective lenses) every 2 years
