Recreational Therapist

Provides individualized assessment and treatment to restore, remediate or rehabilitate specific aspects of physical, cognitive, social, emotional and behavioral functioning and interests in leisure/play. Conducts the assessment in a timely manner in accordance with standards and agency protocol.

Responsibilities

Provides individualized assessment and treatment to restore, remediate or rehabilitate specific aspects of physical, cognitive, social, emotional and behavioral functioning and interests in leisure/play; Evaluates all patients referred, considering patient safety at all times; Identifies the patient's strengths and limitations in physical, cognitive, social, emotional and behavioral functioning and interests in leisure/play; Plans and implements treatment for all patients using evidence-based practice; Plans and implements individualized and group treatment using appropriate treatment intervention and facilitation techniques; Provides education to patients and families related to community (local and national) resources for use after discharge; Documents evaluation findings/data, treatment program, Plan of Care/Patient Education, patient progress, patient discharge summary and productivity statistics accurately and in a timely manner; Communicates with local community programs to assist patients in seeking appropriate programs for continued recreational therapy and reintegration into community life after discharge; Consults with other disciplines and team members to promote the greatest degree of independent functioning possible; Participates in discharge planning, including recommending equipment and community referrals; Attends Health Team rounds as needed or assigned and family discharge planning conferences as necessary; Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Recreational Therapy, or in Recreation with a concentration in Recreational Therapy and completed relevant clinical education required; Or equivalent combination of education and experience

Nice to have

Master's degree preferred; CTRS - Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist upon hire preferred
